Abbott Farms Helps LHS Food Tech Students Make Apple Pies

The apple pie is a staple of many Thanksgiving meals, LHS students measure ingredients for their apple pie students taking Donna Wilson’s Food Technology classes at Liverpool High School recently learned how to make the traditional dessert for the school’s food pantry.

A large number of apples were donated to the LHS Family and Consumer Science Department by Abbott Farms in Baldwinsville. Head baker Crista Cattano and co-owner Alice Abbott visited with each of the LHS Food Tech classes to demonstrate how to make an apple pie from scratch and assist students as they tried it on their own.

Once completed, the pies were labeled with baking directions and frozen so they can be included in Thanksgiving meals that the LHS Food Pantry will give to area families.

Abbott Farms is a fifth-generation family owned and operated farm. In addition to producing fruit crops such as apples, pumpkins and strawberries, the farm also features barnyard animals and specials events throughout the year.
