Asbestos Removal to Begin at LHS
Wednesday, April 3, 2019 -
Dear Liverpool Community:
Beginning April 8, contractors will begin removing air handling units/ductwork insulation, pipe fitting insulation and debris in the crawl space at Liverpool High School.
In addition, contractors will begin removing pipe insulation in chases, floor tile and mastic from the bathrooms in the LHS Athletic Wing on April 22.
Asbestos has been identified in some of the materials, and its removal necessitates that contractor employees wear protective clothing and follow appropriate procedures including:
- Posting notifications 10-days prior to the start of work
- Securing a 25-foot section around the area of removal with red asbestos danger tape
- Installing critical barriers with two layers of plastic inside the removal area
- Monitoring of air quality by an independent service consultant
The work at LHS was approved by community members as part of the Liverpool Central School District’s Phase Three Renovation Project. The asbestos abatement work is expected to continue until July 1, 2019. Community members will not be allowed in the impacted areas of the building until air samples are acceptable per the New York State Department of Labor’s requirements.
If you have any questions or concerns during this project, please feel free to contact LHS Executive Principal Douglas Lawrence at 315-453-1500.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this process.
Dr. Mark F. Potter
Superintendent of Schools
