Asbestos Removal to Begin at WRE, DO
Tuesday, May 14, 2019 -
Dear Liverpool Community:
Beginning May 27, contractors will begin removing duct seam tape and duct mastic in the boiler room of the former Wetzel Road Elementary.
In addition, contractors will begin removing boiler insulation, boiler breeching insulation, water storage tank insulation and pipe fitting insulation in the boiler room at the District Office on that same day.
Asbestos has been identified in some of the materials, and its removal necessitates that contractor employees wear protective clothing and follow appropriate procedures including:
- Posting notifications 10-days prior to the start of work
- Securing a 25-foot section around the area of removal with red asbestos danger tape
- Installing critical barriers with two layers of plastic inside the removal area
- Monitoring of air quality by an independent service consultant
The work at WRE and the District Office was approved by community members as part of the Liverpool Central School District’s Phase Four Renovation Project. The asbestos abatement work is expected to continue until July 1, 2019. Community members will not be allowed in the impacted areas of the building until air samples are acceptable per the New York State Department of Labor’s requirements.
If you have any questions or concerns during this project, please feel free to contact Deputy Superintendent Daniel Henner at 315-622-7148.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this process.
Dr. Mark F. Potter
Superintendent of Schools
