Chinese Educators Visit Liverpool’s ESY Program
Thursday, July 21, 2016 -
Educators from the Central China Normal University recently visited Donlin Drive Elementary where they experienced a typical day for the students and staff at the Liverpool Central School District’s Extended School Year program.
The Chinese educators spent several hours observing classroom lessons as well as speech, occupational and physical therapy sessions to give them insight into the district’s special education program. In China, regular education teachers like those from CCNU have limited exposure to special education classrooms and services.
After learning about the program, the CCNU faculty members had the chance to ask questions of the ESY teachers, staff members and LCSD administrators. ESY Principal Teresa Bowers said that ESY faculty members were thrilled to show others what they do each day to support Liverpool students, and the visiting educators were amazed at and incredibly appreciative of what they witnessed during their visit.
“What really touched me was their awareness and concern for our staff and teachers,” Bowers said. “We would love to have them come back next year.”
CCNU is a SUNY Oswego partner university. The Chinese educators were visiting Central New York as part of Oswego’s three-week program that focused on teaching, technology, and advancing common educational objectives.
