EE Students Participate in NYS Assembly Reading Challenge

New York State Assemblyman Al Stirpe recently stopped by Elmcrest Elementary eestirpereading1to congratulate students who participated in the NYS Assembly’s Annual Summer Reading Challenge.

This summer’s theme was “Every Hero Has a Story” and highlighted tales of courageous people who have overcome obstacles to achieve greatness. Students were asked to read 15 minutes a day for at least 40 days during the months of July and August. They kept track of their progress on a special calendar that was then submitted at the end of the challenge.

During a special ceremony at EE, Assemblyman Stirpe presented NYS Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificates to 78 students in kindergarten through sixth grade: Bryce Shutts, Esther Fjeldsted, Ethan Parry-Benedict, Jamie Sheridan, Joey Mathes, Juan Rentas, Sara Cruikshank, Weston Toepp, Dominic Cofrancesco, James Hayden, Jillian Fox, Julia Manwaring, June Piorkowski, Kairi Huston, Lauren Graham, Mckenna Folks, Mirabella Beerman, Owen Fairbanks, Rose Piorkowski, Sydney Nestor , Cameron O’Neill, Sara Geoghegan, Brian Juston, Connor Lynch, Dana Lindsley, Gabrielle Kuberski, Isabella Koskowski, Lantz Herrera, Madelyn Devendorf, Meghan Stevens, Tyce Haskins, Cameron Aitchison, Cameron Herrera, Elizabeth Graham, Emily Nestor, Ivy Bregande, Jacob Dolan, Jacob Sturgen , Justin Smallman, Kasey O'Neill, Katherine Elkins, Lexi Bregande, Mary Hayden, Vera Semenyuk-Orabona, Aiden Holmes, Alyssa Squadrito, Brandon Stevens, Chloe Dailey, Christian Aitchison, Cody Badger, Jake Kempisty, Kaelem Haskins, Laura Santos, Mariya Orisyuk, Mariya Rentas, Mary Geoghegan, Rachel Benjamin, William Ireton, Aidan Lloyd, Anna Cavelino, Conor Chambrone, Deirdre Williams, Dev Patel, Emily Santillanes, Emily Wood, Ethan Przytula, Ian Herrera, Julia Payment, Katherine Wood, Kaylee Dobroski, Rachel Przytula, Ryan Graham, Ryan Muldoon, Colin Bradshaw, Hannah Esek, Isabella Whaley, Kylei Cavelino and Mihaela Pranjkovic.

To celebrate their achievements at the school level, two lucky reading challenge participants had the chance to throw a pie at EE Principal Daphne Valentine – to the delight of all in attendance.
