LCSD Food Service Department Updates Meal Charging Policy
Wednesday, September 7, 2016 -
The Liverpool Central School District Food Service Department is proud to serve breakfast and lunch each day to more than 7,000 Liverpool students. Nutritious meals are necessary for the healthy development of both the body and the mind. With the help of nutritious meals, children are more successful in the classroom, and benefit with increased energy and greater attention spans.
The Food Service Department utilizes the “My School Bucks” point of service system in all LCSD schools. Families can deposit money in their child’s account and the student can access their account at school using their individual pin numbers. But what happens when the student’s lunch account is depleted before a parent can add additional funds to the account?
In those instances, the student will be provided a regular lunch and the lunch charge will be noted. The students will be kindly reminded to tell their parent or guardian (K-6) or to remember their money the next day (7-12).
Parents will be contacted at the end of each school week to let them know when their child’s account has been depleted. A student will be allowed to accumulate up to five charges and still receive their lunch choice in its entirety. After five charges, the student will receive a cheese sandwich, fruit and milk, and the child’s account will be charged 60 cents for the alternate meal.
If the student charges the cheese sandwich five additional times, the Food Service Department will contact the parent. The principal and the school counselor also will be informed.
If all attempts fail and the student is still not provided with a lunch or the means to obtain a lunch, additional administrative actions will be considered.
As always, free and reduced meal applications are available to families who may need assistance paying for school lunch. To download an application, visit www.liverpool.k12.ny.us/page/freeandreduced.
Families with questions regarding this charging policy or the free and reduced meal application can call 622-7172.
The LCSD Food Service Department looks forward to serving nutritious meals to Liverpool students during the 2016-2017 school year.
