LCSD Library Media Specialists Participate in Hour of Code

Wednesday, December 14, 2016 -

What do Chris Bosh, Malala Yousafzai, Barack Obama, Mark Zuckerberg and mrehourofcode3Ashton Kutcher have in common?

It may seem like an odd group, but they all know the importance of introducing children to computer science and showing them that everyone can learn how to code.

And just like that star-studded list, the Liverpool Central School District’s library media specialists know how important it is as well and recently introduced students to code through numerous Hour of Code activities.

Students were presented with multiple coding apps (of varying ability levels) that allowed them to solve puzzles by using code or create their own games featuring characters from Frozen, Minecraft and Star Wars.

Code.org, a public 501c3 non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools, organizes the annual Hour of Code. This year’s event, which was held during Computer Science Education Week, reached tens of millions of students in more than 180 countries.
