LCSD STEM Presents CNY Rocket Challenge
Thursday, April 4, 2019 -
Are you a Liverpool Central School District student in grades 4-12 who is interested in rockets and the science behind how they work?
If you answered yes, then the CNY Rocket Challenge is for you!
The district will hold an informational meeting regarding the annual challenge on Thursday, April 25, from 6 to 7:30 pm. in the LCSD District Office Board Room (195 Blackberry Road).
The district also is seeking adults (parents/guardians/teachers) to serve as assistant coaches for the rocket teams. Anyone interested in helping coach a team should plan to attend this meeting as well.
Topics that will be discussed at the meeting will include:
- CNY Rocket Challenge History
- Participation Expectations and Requirements
- How Teams will be Formed
- Tutoring and Build Schedule
- CNY Rocket Challenge Event (Saturday, June 1)
The CNY Rocket Challenge is for local students. Students will compete in two categories - junior (grades 4-8) and senior (grades 9-12). Participants build rockets from kits, paint them, and bring them to Syracuse University’s Skytop field the first Saturday in June for launching.
Team build sessions will take place in the Liverpool High School Cafeteria on:
- Thursday, May 2
- Thursday, May 9
- Thursday, May 16
- Thursday, May 30
Teams are judged on the quality of their construction, knowledge of the subject, how well they estimate their trajectory, and whether or not their “eggstronaut” survives its ride into the sky. Awards are given in both the junior and senior categories. The launches are fun to watch and the general public is invited to attend this free event.
