LHS Artists to Host Empty Bowls Event
Thursday, April 4, 2019 -
Liverpool High School students taking Ceramics with art teacher Danielle Ruggiero will soon use their creations to fight hunger.
The students will host an Empty Bowls event on Tuesday, April 30, at 6 p.m. in LHS Room 902/904. The event will be held in conjunction with opening night of the high school’s annual Visual Encounters Art Show.
Ruggiero’s students were tasked with researching ceramic artists that specialize in designing bowls to help them brainstorm and sketch their own designs around a common theme. The students then took those designs and made 10 bowls – five thrown on a pottery wheel and five hand built with coils & slabs – and glazed the bowls with similar colors using underglaze, celadon, potters’ choice, stroke & coat, or satin matte.
The ceramic bowls will be available for purchase during the Empty Bowls event on April 30 and will cost between $5 and $20. Those purchasing a bowl also will receive a bowl of Stewart’s Ice Cream. Proceeds from the event will benefit the LHS Food Pantry.
Empty Bowls is an international project whose goal is to fight hunger through the creation and donations of ceramic bowls.
