Tuesday, October 11, 2016 -
Liverpool High School senior Alejandro Becerra Jr. has been named a 2016-2017 National Hispanic Scholar as part of the National Hispanic Recognition Program.
Becerra is one of 5,000 academically outstanding students to receive this honor. To be eligible, a student must be at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino, achieve a minimum score on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test and have a cumulative junior year grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Approximately 1.5 million students from more than 22,000 high schools in the United States took the test, according to the National Merit Scholarship Program Web site.
The NHRP was established in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. The program is open to Americans of Hispanic background who take the PSAT test.
