LHS Seniors Video Chat with U.S Rep. John Katko

Wednesday, May 17, 2017 -

Seniors in social studies teacher James Chrisfield and English teacher lhskatkovideochatMichele Crego’s Humanities in Action 12 class at Liverpool High School recently had the opportunity to discuss current issues with United States Representative John Katko.

Katko participated in a video chat with the students from his office in Washington D.C. and shared his thoughts on being a member of the United States House of Representatives. The seniors, in turn, asked questions they had after watching President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress. Topics included veteran health care, the Keystone Pipeline, the Route 81 infrastructure project, the drug epidemic, education and North Korea.

The New York representative candidly answered the students’ questions and was impressed with the issues they wanted to discuss. He encouraged the LHS seniors to continue exploring these issues and to stay informed.

Katko also told the students to contact him if they were ever in Washington D.C. and he would happy to arrange a tour of The Capital.

The Humanities in Action 12 class was created in 2014 and designed to help make LHS graduates college and career ready. By combining the curriculums of four New York State required senior courses (Literature 12, Participation in Government, Economics, and Writing Workshop), the course allows students to interact with the Central New York community as they prepare for their future.
