LHS Symphonic Band to Perform with SU Wind Ensemble

Dr. Bradley Ethington, director of bands at Syracuse University, recently stopped by Liverpool High School to work with the LHS Symphonic Band. His visit was part of the band’s preparation for its upcoming combined concert with the SU Wind Ensemble on Tuesday, April 30, beginning at 8 p.m. at the Setnor School of Music.
Both groups will conclude the program as one band by performing The Thunderer March by John Philip Sousa. Guest conductor will be Dr. Shanti Simon, director of bands at the University of Oklahoma.
The concert is free and open to all. The Setnor School of Music is located at 900 South Crouse Avenue on the Syracuse University campus. The concert also will be live streamed through the Setnor School of Music Web site (click here).
Ethington, who conducts the SU Wind Ensemble, coordinates Syracuse University’s graduate program in wind conducting and serves as chair of wind & percussion studies. He holds bachelor’s degrees in music education and biochemistry from the Honors College at Michigan State University, the Master of Music from Baylor University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Texas at Austin.
Simon conducts the OU Wind Symphony and leads Oklahoma University’s graduate and undergraduate wind conducting programs. Prior to joining the faculty, Simon was the flight commander and associate conductor with The United States Air Force Academy Band in Colorado Springs. Simon earned her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in conducting from the University of Minnesota. She received her Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music degrees from Stetson University.
