Pieklik Selected for Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy
Friday, May 22, 2015 -
Liverpool Middle math teacher Sara Pieklik is one of three Central New York educators selected to participate in the upcoming Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program.
On June 17, Pieklik will travel to the U.S Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, where educators will participate in 45 hours of professional development, as well as an intensive educator curriculum focused on space science and exploration. Activities will include classroom, laboratory and field training exercises, which are linked to the U.S. science and math teaching standards.
Pieklik and her fellow teachers also will undergo real-life astronaut training, including a high-performance jet simulation, scenario-based space missions, land and water survival training, and a state-of-the-art flight dynamics program.
Each educator received a full scholarship to attend the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program. The scholarship, which was underwritten by Honeywell and Honeywell employee contributions, includes tuition for the week-long program, travel expenses and program materials.
Pieklik said she is honored to attend the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy, and excited to apply what she learns to her classroom curriculum. She also hopes to connect with her students electronically while she is in Huntsville.
“It is the most wonderful opportunity and the best professional development available to teachers,” Pieklik said.
