School Lunch Prices to Change for 2016-2017
Friday, July 15, 2016 -
At the July 12th Board of Education meeting, the board approved changes to the price of school lunch for the 2016-2017 school year. Students at the elementary and middle school levels will now pay $2.45 for a school lunch, while students at the high school level will now pay $2.70. The price of milk will remain 70 cents. The District will continue to offer universal breakfast, at no cost to students, in all LCSD buildings for the 2016-2017 school year.
As part of The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, school districts across the country are required to meet 26 regulations. One such regulation involves equity in school lunch pricing. Nationally, all federally funded food service programs are mandated to increase lunch prices for a full pay lunch if prices are below the current goal of $2.78. The maximum annual increase amount allowed is 10 cents.
As always, Free and Reduced Meal applications are available for families who may need assistance paying for school lunch. Applications approved during the 2015-2016 school year expire on September 30, 2016, and parents/ guardians must submit new Free & Reduced Applications at the start of the 2016-2017 school year to continue eligibility in the program after September 30, 2016.An updated application form will be posted on the LCSD Web site as soon as it is available.
