Special Education Department to Hold Parent Information Workshops

The Liverpool Central School District Special Education Department has scheduled four Parent Information Nights for the 2014-2015 school year:

 

  • Graduation and Exit Credentials for Students with Disabilities: LCSD Director of Special Education Dr. Thomas Zino will provide an explanation of the high school exit credentials available to students with disabilities. This information night will be held on Tuesday, October 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the District Office Board Room (195 Blackberry Road).

  • Effective Communication Between Schools and Families - The Key to Success: Parent Outreach Coordinator Kristine O’Brien, from the Syracuse University Parent Advocacy Center and Midstate Special Education Parent Technical Assistance Center, will provide an overview of strategies for effective communication between families and educators. This information night will be held on Wednesday, November 12, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the District Office Board Room (195 Blackberry Road).

  • Transitioning from Preschool To School-Age Special Education Services: LCSD Committee on Preschool Special Education Chairperson Deborah McGowan will provide information regarding the transition process from preschool to kindergarten special education services for families that have a preschooler eligible to enter kindergarten in September 2015. There also will be a question and answer session with a panel of professionals including a special education teacher, general education teacher, speech therapist, occupational therapist and physical therapist. This information night will be held on Tuesday, January 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the District Office Board Room (195 Blackberry Road).

  • Understanding and Redirecting Challenging Behavior: LCSD Behavior Specialist Teresa Bowers will provide an overview of how to understand problem behavior and respond with effective, positive discipline strategies. Time will be allotted at the end of the workshop for a question and answer period. This information night will be held on Tuesday, March 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the District Office Board Room (195 Blackberry Road).
