Winterguard Tryouts, Parent Meeting Set for November 4
Monday, October 27, 2014 -
Do you love to dance? Perform? Compete? If this is your passion – Winterguard is your place!
The Liverpool Winterguard Program is a part of the Pageantry Arts Program at Liverpool High School, which includes the Winterguard Program and the Liverpool Marching Warriors Band. The program is open to both male and female students in grades 5-12 who are Liverpool residents, regardless of experience. While a dance background helps, it isn't necessary. Staff members are trained teachers, spinners and dancers who serve as staff of the Liverpool Central School District/
Winterguard is the sport of indoor colorguard. Modern colorguard is a combination of the use of flags, mock sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement. Colorguards can be found in high schools, middle schools, universities, and also some independent organizations that are related to drum corps. In Liverpool, Winterguard is a co-curricular program supported by the district.
“Our programs exist to foster positive experiences for all who participate, by promoting education, creativity, and freedom of expression,’ said Assistant Program Director Sky Harris. “Our members are both music students and non-music students and come from all different dance backgrounds.”
Auditions for the 2014-2015 season are being held Tuesday, November 4, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Chestnut Hill Middle. A parent meeting will follow at 8:30 p.m. Students should dress to move (gym clothes) and bring/wear socks for the audition.
