LHS Students Get a Lesson in Adaptive Sports

Thursday, October 27, 2016 -

It was a typical day for students in Tracey Vannatta and Dave Mancuso’s physical education classes at Liverpool High School – one group lhsmovealong2played basketball while the other played field hockey. But what wasn’t so typical was how they were asked to play each sport.

Representatives from Move Along Inc. recently brought the organization’s Inclusive Sports Training program to LHS. Students had the chance to use adaptive sports equipment such as wheelchairs, hockey sleds and hand cycles to get a better understanding of the range of adaptive sports options available to individuals with disabilities. They also learned the story of founder Greg Callen, who was paralyzed from the waist down after an accident.

Move Along Inc. is a Central New York based organization that assists individuals with disabilities by providing them with the opportunity to participate in recreational activities, gain life skills, and adapt to their conditions. To learn more about Move Along Inc., visit
