LMS Plays Basketball, Raises $900 to Benefit Room2Smile Fund
Tuesday, March 21, 2017 -
Liverpool Middle teachers and staff recently took to the court for the annual LMS vs. Cancer basketball game, with school bragging rights on the line.
But this fun event, which was held for the 17th year in a row, meant so much more to the LMS community because it also raised more than $900 to support the Upstate Foundation’s Room2Smile Fund. The fund was established in memory of Daniel Spillett, a long-time Liverpool High School volunteer lacrosse coach who passed away in 2005 after a battle with cancer. The money raised will keep a comfort cart stocked with entertainment and comfort items to help bring a smile to cancer patients and their families during treatment at the Upstate Cancer Center.
LMS vs. Cancer is the school’s biggest charity event each year. Students and staff raised money by selling orange and blue Syracuse University T-shirts prior to the event and holding a half-court shooting contest during halftime. In addition, those in attendance were treated to a special visit by several local mascots - Otto the Orange from Syracuse University, Scooch from the Syracuse Chiefs and The Silver Knight from the Syracuse Silver Knights.
