SRM Art Club Recycles Old Chairs to Make Art
Friday, July 1, 2016 -
While members of the Soule Road Middle Art Club use every color of the rainbow in their artwork, green was the focus of their most recent project.
The seventh- and eighth-graders took old wooden chairs and gave them new life with brightly colored designs. The 16 chairs were each created with a specific SRM teacher or staff member in mind, and the finished chairs were presented to those staff members at the end of the school year. Design topics included sports, literature, math, music and art.
Students sketched their ideas on paper first, then traced their designs on the chairs. Once it was finalized, the seventh- and eighth-graders used latex and acrylic paints to fill in the design and added a sealer to protect the finished product. All the work was done during student’s lunch and academic support blocks or after school.
