SRM to Host Art Show at Café 407
Thursday, March 3, 2016 -
Throughout the month of March, the clay relief platters created during a collaborative project between students and teachers at Soule Road Middle, Liverpool High School and Syracuse University will be on display at Café 407.
The show, called “In Our Words,” will share the thoughts and reflections of those involved in the project. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the café.
Earlier this year, 36 students from Soule Road Middle and Liverpool High School traveled to Syracuse University’s Comstock Art Facility where they participated in a one-day ceramic workshop with nationally known ceramicist and SU ceramics professor Margie Hughto. The students, selected to attend the workshop by SRM art teacher Susan Sapareto and LHS art teacher Emily Dusart, worked in collaboration to create nature-themed relief platters using various clay and color techniques that Hughto shared with them. Through the use of molds, fossils and natural foliage, the students embossed, impressed and texturized their pieces, then applied special color techniques using underglaze to decorate the surface of the piece.
Café 407 is located at 407 Tulip Street in the village of Liverpool.
