Syracuse Detective Speaks with LHS Students During Career Chat

Friday, March 31, 2017 -

Syracuse Police Department Detective Derek McGork recently stopped by lhscareerchatdetectiveLHS to speak with students about his career in law enforcement.

McGork’s visit was part of LHS Career Chats, a series of talks featuring local professionals that helps students explore careers available to them after graduation.

The detective described a typical day in the life of law enforcement, which is much different than what the public sees on television. He also spoke about how taking a wide variety of courses in both high school and college helped him not only become a well-rounded person, but also helps him in all aspects of his career as a detective.

McGork has worked in law enforcement of the last 18 years. He is a graduate of Le Moyne College and earned his Master of Advanced Studies in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California at Irvine. In addition, McGork is the regional director of the New York Gang Investigators Association and has most recently been assigned as a director of the Homicide Squad in the SPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit.
