LCSD BOE Appoints Henner as Next Superintendent

Daniel Henner

The Liverpool Central School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Henner as the district’s next superintendent of schools. The vote was 6-3 in favor of the appointment. The board is in the process of finalizing a contract with Henner and anticipates he will assume the role of superintendent on July 1, 2022.

Roll Call:

Aye: Craig Dailey, Stacey Balduf, James Root, Joseph Morawski, Katherine Roberts, Thomas Furr

Nay: Richard Pento, Nicholas Blaney, Timothy Fay

Henner currently serves as Liverpool’s deputy superintendent. He will succeed current Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark F. Potter, who is retiring after nine years as superintendent and 15 years as a district administrator.

The Board of Education selected Henner after a comprehensive, nationwide superintendent search with the assistance of McPherson & Jacobson, LLC, Executive Recruitment and Development.

“The goal of our superintendent search was to hire the best candidate that will support the vision and mission of the district to serve our students, staff, and community,” said Liverpool CSD BOE President Craig Dailey. “We are excited to have Mr. Henner continue his leadership in Liverpool as we continue to redesign our schools for the future.”

Henner, who served as a principal at Liverpool High School from 2008 to 2010, returned to the district in January 2018. He oversees multiple district departments and offices, including the Transportation, Operations & Maintenance, Food Service and Security departments, as well as the district’s Business Office. As the district’s financial officer, he manages its more than $170 million budget, recently oversaw the completion of $65 million renovation project at LHS, and was instrumental in the recently approved $73 million renovation project that will allow the district to provide students with more educational opportunities for years to come.

Along with a committee of staff and community members, Henner developed the Education 2020 recommendations that will reconfigure district schools in September 2022. The reconfiguration provides a better balance related to student enrollment, programs and staffing.

From 2011-2018, Henner served as a principal and then superintendent of the Otselic Valley School District. He also has served as an administrator or teacher in the Altmar-Parish Williamstown, Cato-Meridian, North Rose-Wolcott and Port Byron school districts.

Henner is an active member of the New York State Council of School Superintendents, participates in the Onondaga County School Boards Association, New York State School Boards Association and the Statewide School Finance Consortium. He received his bachelor of science in secondary education (math) from Oswego State, his master of liberal arts from Brockport State, and his certificate of advanced study in school administration from Cortland State. He also has completed the New York State Superintendent Development Program at Oswego State.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the Liverpool Central School District community in my current role as deputy superintendent over the next few months before assuming the position of superintendent in July,” Henner said. “I truly believe that Liverpool is not ‘my’ school district, but ‘our’ school district and will continue to work with the community to do what is best for the students of Liverpool.”
