Liverpool Robotics Qualifies for VEX World Championship 2021

The Liverpool Warriors Robotics Team recently competed at the Northern New York VEX Robotics State Championships, where its performance qualified the team for the World Championship VEX Robotics Competition 2021.

Fifteen Liverpool High School students, along with advisors Edward Levine and Matthew Starke, competed at the state championship, which was held virtually. The action-packed tournament featured teams from across New York State who competed with and against each other in a series of back-to-back robot challenges.

Participants competed by strategically executing the game Change Up, driving robots they designed, built and programmed from the ground up using the VEX Robotics Design System.

After a full day of competition, the Arctic Warriors made it to the semifinals of the elimination tournament and received the New York State Design Award. The Design Award is presented to a team that demonstrates an organized and professional approach to the design process, project & time management, and team organization.

The team’s Engineering Notebook and Judges interview also helped demonstrate the team’s ability to produce a quality robot. Key criteria include:

• Engineering Notebook demonstrates a clear, complete, and organized record of the robot design process.
• Team demonstrates effective management of time, talent, and resources.
• Team interview demonstrates their ability to explain their robot design and game strategy.
• Team interview demonstrates effective communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism.

The LHS students and advisors work each year to educate students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by designing and building robots to complete game challenges. This experience also includes competitions with other robotics teams on the local, state, and world championship levels.

VEX Robotics is the world’s fastest growing competitive robotics program for elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and colleges around the world, with more than 7,300 teams from 26 countries participating in more than 400 VEX Robotics Competition events world-wide.

The competition season culminates each spring with the highly anticipated VEX Robotics Competition World Championship event, which will take place virtually from May 17 to 29.
