Announcement Regarding LHS Graduation

Dear LHS Class of 2021 and Families,

After much thought and consideration, Liverpool High School will be honoring the Class of 2021 by hosting two special ceremonies on Saturday, June 26, 2021. It has been our goal to provide our seniors with a celebration that is as close to our traditional ceremony as possible, while also considering the wants and needs of their families in our current environment. As a result, we feel the plan outlined below will provide us with an opportunity to bring the Class of 2021 together to be recognized, while also providing their family members with a more convenient opportunity to participate in this celebration.

As has been the case with all events this school year, our district must comply with state and county guidelines and health regulations when preparing any large ceremony or gathering such as our commencement. While we have seen many restrictions and guidelines eased in recent weeks, current capacity, vaccination, and COVID-19 testing guidelines have made it difficult to bring our entire graduating class together with a large number of guests for a traditional graduation ceremony. Although we could put on a traditional graduation ceremony, we would have to drastically limit the amount of guests per graduate and would have to require proof of vaccination, a recent negative COVID-19 test result, or proof of a past positive COVID-19 result in the past 90 days for each of our graduates and their guests. The plan outlined below will help us to celebrate the Class of 2021 with a traditional in-person ceremony for the students (streamed for their family members) and an in-person diploma ceremony that will maximize the number of guests each student can invite without requiring proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, or COVID-19 case results.

The safety of our students, their families, and our staff is a priority. The plan outlined below is in alignment with all state and county guidelines, while also providing our students and their families with an opportunity to celebrate together June 26, 2021:

  • Student-Only Graduation Ceremony (9 a.m.) - Members of the Class of 2021 will attend an in-person ceremony in the LHS Gymnasium, dressed in their graduation caps and gowns. This ceremony will consist of the traditional speeches, performances, and student recognitions found in a typical Liverpool High School Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony will be live streamed for family members to view from home.

  • Diploma Ceremony (11 a.m. to approx. 5:30 p.m.) - A diploma ceremony will take place in the Liverpool High School Stadium (LHS Gymnasium as a backup location for rain/weather concerns). Following state and county guidelines, graduates and up to eight (8) of their immediate family members will walk up to a stage located in our stadium at designated times. Graduates will have their name announced and will walk our graduation stage to receive their diploma, with their family members nearby to experience this important moment with them. This ceremony will be live streamed for additional family members to watch at home. Additionally, a professional photographer will be taking pictures of each of our graduates and other photography locations will be set up for families to take their own pictures. The specific guidelines, procedures, and schedule for this event will be sent in the coming weeks.

We are proud of the Class of 2021and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments on June 26.

Sincerely,

The LHS Administrative Team
