Information Regarding K-8 Schedules for Next School Year

Dear Liverpool CSD Families,

As we continue to roll out plans for the 2022-2023 school year, we have heard several concerns regarding changes to the K-8 schedule for students, in particular the perception that there will be a decrease in the amount of time students are receiving instruction in encore courses (Art, Health, General Music, Family and Consumer Science, and Technology).

One of the biggest reasons for the changes being made is that they will allow the district to expand the opportunities our students will have in all instructional areas including encore and elective courses.

Next year's middle school students will have the opportunity to participate in an elective-based schedule, in addition to taking eight week classes of Art, Health, General Music, Family and Consumer Science, and Technology. Our counselors across the district are in the process of collecting requests from students as an important step to open school in September 2022. In an effort to expand upon our Fine Arts and STEM career pathway opportunities, the following electives will be offered to 7th and 8th grade students next year: Studio Art, Music Production, Theater Workshop, Band, Chorus, Orchestra, Food Tech, Future Educators, Media Arts, Materials Processing and Robotics. In this link you will find more information about these elective offerings: Middle School Elective Offerings

In addition, our elementary schools will continue to offer students Art, Music, Library and Physical Education. In addition, 5th grade students will have the opportunity to take Family and Consumer Science. We pride ourselves on our student relationships with our special area teachers. In the Education 2020 model, our students will build upon their relationships with special area teachers during the time they are in K-5.

We are currently working on adding before and after school programs for grades K-8. Our objective is to expand on all elective areas and create consistent opportunities in all quadrants.

Next year’s schedule will look different for our students. The district will collect data throughout the school year from multiple stakeholder groups, which will guide us through a reflective process to make the adjustments that will improve upon engaging all of our students. Our objective is to increase student engagement K-12, promote lifetime pathways to graduation, and quite simply make the learning experience fun for our students.

Sincerely,

The Liverpool Central School District Administrative Team
