Saying goodbye is never easy, but the Nate Perry Elementary “Going Out with a Bang” Committee is planning a fun evening to celebrate the school located on Buckley Road.

After 65 years, Nate Perry will close its doors for the final time this June. Before that happens, the current NPE community wants to invite former students, teachers and families to join them in reminiscing about their time at the school.

On Thursday, June 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., the NPE community will gather at the school to celebrate, eat, and tour the building.

The event will include the opening of a time capsule, special tributes, field games, bounce houses and more. Pictures, celebratory posters, and NPE memorabilia will be displayed throughout the building, and guests will have the opportunity to take pictures in front of special murals and spots that hold meaning.

“Nate Perry has always been a very special school way back to when I was a child,” said NPE Principal and alum Dana Ziegler. “The school family and ‘feel’ as anyone who enters our school shares with us, is what has always set us apart.”

“I know my Warriors will go forth and spread their wings, reach for the stars and have an incredible impact on others, but I am looking forward to celebrating as a family one last time,” she added.

As part of the Education 2020 initiative, the Liverpool Central School District is redesigning what education in Liverpool will look like in the future. The redesign includes a reconfiguration of grade levels, as well as the closure and sale of Nate Perry Elementary.

In April, the Liverpool CSD Board of Education accepted a bid for the sale of the Nate Perry Elementary land and building to Terra Science and Education, Inc. for the amount of $3.9 million. Terra plans to continue using the building for educational purposes as the Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship Charter School.
