A Message Regarding the Tragedy in Texas

Dear Liverpool Community, Parents, Guardians and Students,

We are extremely saddened by yesterday’s tragedy at Robb Elementary School and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families, students, staff and community of Uvalde, Texas.

As the details continue to unfold about this most recent and senseless tragedy, our resolve and commitment to provide a safe and secure learning environment remains our utmost priority. We will continue to be diligent as we focus on keeping our students, staff and facilities safe and secure.

While this tragedy happened elsewhere, our children will be impacted by this news. I encourage you to be aware of what your children are saying about the tragedy throughout the week, and reassure them that school is indeed a safe place.

I realize and understand there is no way to make sense of such senseless acts. Where do we turn to for answers? We are all struggling. I share this because it's okay to struggle and it's okay to be unsure.

I’d like to provide you with a link to the National Association of School Psychologists web page, Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers, which includes some helpful suggestions on how to discuss this tragedy with your children. If your child needs to have a trained person speak to them about their fears over this incident, please contact the principal at your child’s school.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark F. Potter
Superintendent of Schools
