Update Regarding Liverpool CSD Return to School (3-26-21)

Dear Liverpool CSD Community,

It’s hard to believe that just one year ago our whole world was turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic. We truly thought that life would go back to normal in just a few short weeks, but that isn’t what happened.

Now we have the opportunity to take a step toward normal by bringing our students back to school full-time after the Spring Recess.

Starting on Monday, April 5, Liverpool Central School District students in the A, B and C Cohorts will return to their classrooms five days a week. This includes students at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Those students who remain in the D Cohort will still join their classes remotely, and will commit to remote learning for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

As per previous e-mails, guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Onondaga County Health Department recently were modified to reduce student social distancing from six feet to three feet in the classroom as long as everyone wears a mask. While barriers were originally included in the county’s guidance, that has since changed.

Although the barriers are no longer needed in the classrooms, the district has purchased barriers for use in our school cafeterias. Additional barriers will be available for use by students with extenuating circumstances.

My hope is that by continuing to practice all other mitigation measures… including hand washing, mask wearing and maintaining social and physical distances, we can successfully remain open for students to attend in-person five days a week. However, if there is a spike in COVID-19 cases in the area or building, the district may need to return to its previous hybrid model.

We will provide more information next week, including updated bus routes for the remainder of the school year.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your building principal. We looked forward to seeing everyone on April 5!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark F. Potter
Superintendent of Schools
