Update Regarding Return to School Plan

Dear Liverpool Students and Families:

Happy Summer to All.  With the opening of the New York State Fair… this typically represents the acknowledgement that schools will also be opening soon. Obviously, I think we all know and understand that the expectations and protocols for school have changed significantly over the past year - and perhaps may continue to evolve.

As most everyone knows and realizes - planning for school this year has been difficult - to say the least. As you all know, we’re all seeing an abrupt change with the Office of the Governor; we have been handed a guidance document from our Education Commissioner (Dr. Betty Rosa) outlining her thoughts regarding school opening; we were also provided additional COVID-related guidance information from our local health department; we received an Emergency Order from our local County Executive directing staff to be vaccinated or plan to be COVID tested weekly; and now we’re hearing that possibly our new Governor (Kathy Hochul - who will take the position next week) is considering other COVID mandates.

With all of these possible changes spinning... we are nearing completion with our draft “Return to School” Plan for the 2021-2022 School Year. The Return to School Plan will be discussed with the Board of Education on Tuesday evening (August 24) - with the anticipation of publishing it on our Web site on Wednesday morning.

I understand the urgency and need for the district to get our school opening plan out to families as soon as possible, however, I want to be sure the expectations, protocols and procedures are accurate, clear and understandable.

I appreciate all of your efforts this summer in preparing for a safe and engaging school year for our students. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do to support the entire Liverpool community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Mark F. Potter
Superintendent of Schools
