Educational Opportunities

The reconfiguration of Liverpool Central School District grades and buildings will allow the district to provide more opportunities for students and staff, including mental health support, reading support, English as a New Language (ENL) support, instructional resources, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM) opportunities, Career Technical Education (CTE) opportunities and Professional Development. Overall, the adjustments were made so that the district can best meet the needs of our students.

At the K-2 level, specific opportunities will include:

  • Focus on an uninterrupted English Language Arts (skills and knowledge) and math blocks
  • Time for teams of teachers to meet to review student data and plan
  • ENL services will be provided to students at all four K-2 buildings
  • Three reading teachers will be assigned to each K-2 building

At the 3-5 level, specific opportunities will include:

  • Focus on an uninterrupted English Language Arts (skills and knowledge) and math blocks
  • Time for teams of teachers to meet to review student data and plan
  • 3-5 ENL programs will be provided in the Chestnut and Morgan Road quadrants
  • Two reading teachers will be assigned to each 3-5 building
  • Grade 5 teachers will departmentalize: Math, English Language Arts, Science & Social Studies 

At the 6-8 level, specific opportunities will include:

  • Daily Response to Intervention time for students built into the schedule
  • Common planning time for core teachers
  • 6-8 ENL programs will be provided in the Chestnut and Morgan Road quadrants
  • Students will be scheduled for five encore classes throughout the school year - Art, Family and Consumer Science (FACS), Health, Music, and Technology. These electives will support students with a pathway in high school.

Another opportunity at the middle school level, are new pathway electives that include Food Tech (FACS), Entrepreneurship (FACS), Future Educators, Studio Arts (Fine Arts), Theatre (Fine Arts), Music Production (Fine Arts), Material Processing (Technology), Robotics (Technology) and Media Arts (Technology). In addition, new high school CTE programs and/or post-secondary opportunities will be offered in Drone Technology, Business Administration, Media Arts, Early Childhood Education, Hospitality & International Foods, and Pre-Apprenticeship for Trades.

A 7-8 STEAM team also will be available for student and will:

  • Be located at Morgan Road Middle
  • Operate on the High School Schedule
  • Include authentic learning experiences connected to Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Career & Technical Education
  • Electives are built in to the team’s schedule
  • Students may still take accelerated courses, band, chorus, orchestra, and other middle level offerings
